Woodbottom Mill - painting by Jack Coulthard

Woodbottom Mill 1976

This is from my childhood. The black woolen-mill where my father worked, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, and the notorious Killup, the rag and bone man, blacklisted for union agitation, who rode his flat-cart as if it were a chariot in Ben Hur. He would crack his whip at us kids if we dared to chase him.
